banana project
Grade 7 children are working on this project and will continue until they complete grade 10 in March 2021.
In June 2018, they planted 85 banana suckers and learn to care for the plants using organic practices under the guidance of the School Farm In-Charge. They also learn water conservation through drip irrigation.
Their class teacher conducted Math class outdoors teaching them to measure the plot and plan planting the suckers at specific intervals.
The class teacher reports that classroom environment is more congenial after the children started working on the project. There is a significant reduction in complaints about each other and an increase in caring and thoughtfulness.
To motivate the children Dr Gitta Zimmerman of Arche Noah Stiftung, Germany sent them 100 Swiss Francs to cover cost of saplings and fertilizers.
